The CA Assembly Public Safety Committee is scheduled to conduct a hearing on April 22 that includes Assembly Bill 47. If passed into law, it would exclude many people convicted of a sex offense from the benefits of the Elderly Parole program.
We must oppose this bill!
The Elderly Parole program currently provides for the release of individuals who have been in custody for at least 20 continuous years and are at least 50 years provided that certain conditions are met. The program currently allows release of individuals convicted of first degree murder of a peace officer, but does not allows release of individuals convicted of a sex offense!
“We are asking members of the CA ACSOL community to call members of the Assembly Public Safety Committee,” stated ACSOL Executive Director Janice Bellucci. “ACSOL has written a letter of opposition to AB 47 (see below), but we are not requesting that you write a letter due to short notice.”

Just say you want to comment on a bill, then say you oppose assembly bill 47. They may ask your name, city or ZIP code.
If you are able, we encourage you to join us at the hearing on April 22 starting at 8:30 a.m.:
Capitol building
Room 126
A similar bill that we sent out an action alert to fight, SB 286, was considered and passed by the Senate Public Safety Committee on April 8. The senate bill will next be considered by the Senate Appropriations Committee.
Thank you for taking action!
